The wood you collect is your currency. Between runs, you can spend it on upgrades like a stronger axe that breaks tougher barriers faster, or a bigger bag to carry more wood per run. There's also a city-building minigame where you dump your wood into constructing buildings -- it's mostly a cosmetic thing, but seeing a little town grow from your chopping is oddly satisfying.

Levels have names like "Forest Frenzy" and "Lava Leap" that hint at the hazards. Early on, it's just wooden palisades and some rolling logs. Around level three, spiked pits show up that require precise swipes to avoid. By level seven, you're dealing with fire-breathing statues and moving walls that squeeze you into tight corridors. The difficulty ramps up mostly through speed -- the game gets faster, and the gaps in barriers get smaller. The game registers the swipe direction, not the speed, so a slow, deliberate drag is way more accurate than frantic flicks. On desktop, the right mouse button hold can be finicky -- if you lift your finger even slightly, the character stops moving. Keep a steady grip. Finally, the city building part isn't just cosmetic; some buildings give permanent stat boosts. Focus on the lumber mill early for a passive wood income.
