How to Play

Game Overview

So I checked out this game called High School Date Makeup Artist, which is kind of a weird name because it's listed under cooking games, but it's actually all about doing makeup and hair for prom or some big school party. You pick from a few different girls, each with their own look -- one's more preppy, another's kinda goth, that sort of thing. Then you get to choose their outfit, do their makeup with all these different shades of eyeshadow and lip gloss, and style their hair however you want. The whole vibe is very bright and cartoony, like those flash games from十年前 but with slightly better graphics. It's pretty straightforward -- you just tap and drag stuff onto the character's face or head, and there's no real challenge or time limit, so it's more about messing around and seeing what looks good. I could see someone who likes fashion or dress-up games getting hooked on it for a while, especially if you enjoy experimenting with color combinations. The controls are just point and click, so it's super casual. Honestly, it feels less like a serious game and more like a digital coloring book for makeup. Some of the lipstick shades are way too bright for real life, but that's part of the fun.

About High School Date Makeup Artist - Salon Girl Games

So this game is basically a dress-up and makeover thing for a school dance. You pick a girl from a few characters--they each have like a different vibe, some are more preppy, some are edgy. Then you're in this salon screen with a mirror and a bunch of tools. The main loop is just: pick a product, apply it to her face or hair, then move to the next step. There's foundation, blush, eyeshadow in like twenty colors, lip gloss, mascara, and you can also do hair--straighten it, curl it, add highlights or dye it totally different. You're using a mouse to click and drag colors onto specific areas, which sounds simple but later levels get picky. At first, the first girl just needs basic stuff--match her skin tone with foundation, pick a neutral eyeshadow. But around level four or five, named something like The Popular Girl, you get a time limit. A bar drains down, and you have to finish the whole face and hair before it hits zero. That's where the pressure kicks in. You can't just slap on any color--she'll have a 'style preference' icon, like a star or a heart, and if you use the wrong palette, she frowns and your score drops. The satisfying moment is when you nail a perfect match and the girl smiles, her whole outfit sparkles, and a little heart pops up. Later, around level eight, there's a mechanic called Accessory Frenzy where you have to pick from a grid of earrings, necklaces, and hair clips while the timer is still running--it's a memory mini-game inside the makeover. The hardest level is Prom Queen Showdown, where two girls want opposite looks and you have to switch between them fast. You get a star rating at the end, and unlocking new makeup palettes or hairstyles happens by collecting enough stars. There's no real story beyond the party, but the challenge comes from speed and accuracy. The controls are just point-and-click, but you'll be moving fast once the timer kicks in. It's not deep, but it's fun to see your creation walk off the screen all dressed up.

Tips & Tricks

Matching the lip gloss to the blush color is a trick that took me way too many failed dates to figure out. The game judges overall harmony, not individual elements, so a bold red lip with a soft pink blush will tank your score. Start with the eyeshadow first, not the foundation -- the game's lighting in the salon studio is weird, and picking a dark shadow can mess up how you see the base layer later. I kept losing points until I realized the hair accessories have hidden compatibility bonuses with certain hairstyles; the tiara pairs perfectly with the updo but looks terrible with pigtails. For the skin tone, use the slider slowly because there's a sweet spot between 'too pale' and 'washed out' that the game doesn't warn you about. The blush application is tricky -- don't overdo the cheeks or the girl looks like she's sunburned. I found that a single click on the center of the cheek and a tiny drag outward gives the best result. Lastly, the 'random' button is a trap. It picks clashing colors almost every time. You're better off starting from a character's default style and tweaking it. One more thing: the party dress selection screen has a hidden refresh button that lets you see more options, but it's tiny and in the corner. I missed it for three playthroughs.
