The difficulty ramps in waves. Some levels have a timer, others have a limited number of moves. There's a mode called "Deep Dive" where the fish are all dark and you have to rely on memory to match them. Later on, you get upgrades like a starfish that slows down new fish arrivals for a few seconds, or a jellyfish that clears a row. You earn coins from merges and can spend them in the shop for these power-ups, but they're one-time use, so you gotta be smart about when to pop them.

Honestly, the game doesn't explain some of these mechanics well at first. I didn't realize the golden fish effect until I accidentally merged two and got five extra seconds. Same with the scoring -- it's not obvious that chaining combos is way more efficient than slow merging. But once you figure it out, you start planning ahead, like clearing a corner for a big merge later. The leaderboard shows top players with insane scores, which is both motivating and slightly annoying because how do they even do that.

Instead of merging two fish and stopping, try to set up a domino effect: merge one pair, then quickly merge the resulting fish with another same-type fish before it moves away. The combo multiplier stacks fast, and that's how you shoot up the leaderboard.

One trick that clicked late for me: don't waste your power-ups on small fish. Save the bomb or freeze for when you've got a cluster of high-level fish stuck together, or when the board is about to overflow. Using them early just delays the inevitable mess.

Finally, keep an eye on the global leaderboard--it updates in real time, and seeing a friend's score pop up can push you to chain smarter, not faster. Oh, and the background music? It's actually helpful for timing--the beat syncs with fish spawn rates in later levels.
