Your money stack carries over between runs, but dying resets the multiplier bonus at the finish gate. If you're close to the end and see a dangerous section, it's better to slow down and play safe than to rush. One stupid death can wipe out ten minutes of careful collecting. Lastly, the shop's "double coins" upgrade is a noob trap--it only doubles the base coin value, not your multiplier earnings. I wasted three runs figuring that out. Stick to speed and agility first, then grab the 2x multiplier upgrade around world five when coins start getting sparse.
