How to Play

Game Overview

Squad Assembler: Merge is this weird idle game where you're basically building action figures from loot boxes and then sending them into fights. The whole thing's about grabbing chests, getting random arms and legs and heads, then sticking them together to make a fighter. You combine two of the same weapon or armor piece to level them up, which is pretty standard merge stuff. The visual style feels like someone took the 90s toy aisle and turned it into a mobile game -- lots of bright colors, chunky designs, and your first hero is literally Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, if you squint. That's the vibe: it knows it's ripping off action franchises. There's no story, just an endless climb through levels where you smash enemy squads. The bosses are real jerks -- they hit hard and need a properly stacked team. You drag body parts onto equipment slots, hit "Create," and then tap "TO BATTLE" to watch the fight play out automatically. Sound's fine but not necessary. Who'd get hooked? People who like tinkering with weird character builds, or fans of those old build-a-fighter toys. It's not deep -- you open chests, merge junk, make a stronger dude, repeat. But there's something satisfying about seeing your frankenstein cyborg with a flamethrower wreck some other squad. It's mindless, grindy, and honestly kind of fun for ten minutes at a time.

About Squad Assembler: Merge

Squad Assembler: Merge is a weird little game where you build fighters one body part at a time. Start with a basic dude -- the first one looks a lot like Shredder from TMNT, which is a fun nod -- and then you open loot boxes to get arms, legs, torsos, and weapons. The core loop is: earn gold, buy chests, drag parts onto your squad members, combine duplicates to level them up, then send your team into battle. Battles are automatic -- your guys just run at the enemy and whack each other until one side dies. You don't control them directly, but you can watch the fight and see which pieces are weak.

Money is the main currency. You get it from winning fights and from those chests you open. The chests drop random parts, so there's a slot machine feel -- sometimes you get a plasma gun or a flamethrower, other times it's just a bat. Combining two of the same item increases its level and stats, which is the satisfying part. Seeing a level 3 rocket launcher melt an enemy squad feels good. The difficulty ramps up fast around world 3 or 4. Enemies start having more health and hit harder, so you can't just throw random parts together. You need to think about which torso gives armor vs. which arms boost attack speed.

Later levels introduce bosses -- big enemies with way more HP that take a few attempts to beat unless you've been grinding. They also have heroes you can hire, which are pre-built fighters with better base stats. These cost crystals (the premium currency), so they're optional but helpful if you're stuck. There's a mini-game element built into the merging itself -- you drag items onto equipment slots, then hit a "Create" button to finalize the fighter. The character editor is surprisingly deep for a mobile game. You can swap out arms, head, torso, legs, and weapon separately, making each squad member look unique. Some combinations are just cosmetic, but others affect battle performance in ways the game doesn't explain well -- you learn by trial and error.

No daily rewards or achievements, which is a bummer. Progress is purely driven by how many chests you open and how efficiently you merge. The UI shows your current level number, so you always know where you stand. Sound helps with the atmosphere -- explosions and gunfire feel punchy -- but you can play without it fine. It's not a deep game, but the loop of opening chests, customizing guys, and watching them fight is oddly satisfying for short sessions 💥.

Tips & Tricks

Early on, I wasted money buying the cheapest loot boxes over and over. That's a trap -- save up for the bigger ones, they drop higher-tier parts way more often, and you'll skip a lot of grinding. The merge mechanic seems simple, but don't just combine the first two identical items you see. Wait until you've got three or more of the same piece, then merge them all at once -- it jumps the level faster and saves inventory space. I kept losing to a boss in world four because my squad had mismatched weapons. Turns out, focusing on one weapon type per fighter (like all melee or all ranged) makes them way more effective than jumbling everything together. The character editor lets you swap arms, torso, and head individually -- I ignored this for too long. Mixing parts from different sets gives hidden stat bonuses sometimes, so experiment with odd combos. Also, those treasure chests after battles? Open them immediately. They expire after a few fights, and I lost a legendary arm piece that way. Lastly, don't bother leveling up every fighter equally. Pick three main ones and dump all your upgrades into them -- a strong core squad clears levels faster than a balanced but weak team. The boss fights get nasty around level 30, so having one tank with high armor and two damage dealers works better than trying to make everyone versatile.
