How to Play

Game Overview

So, Tornado: Fury of the Elements. You're basically a giant, angry storm with a grudge against civilization. The whole game is you, this swirling vortex, rampaging through a city that looks like it was designed to be knocked down. It's not realistic at all, more like a cartoon disaster movie. The buildings are blocky and colorful, and when you hit them, they explode into chunks of debris that spin around you. That's the core loop--suck up stuff, get bigger, smash more stuff. The controls are simple: WASD to move your tornado around. That's it. On mobile, there's a joystick. No complicated combos or special moves, just steering this chaos. The vibe is pure arcade destruction. There's no story, no characters, just you and a city that needs to be flattened. There are defense turrets and obstacles that try to stop you, which is annoying. They shoot at you and knock off some of your power, so you have to dodge while still trying to level buildings. It feels kind of like a power trip, honestly. You start small, barely able to knock over a mailbox. Then you grab a car, some trees, a roof, and suddenly you're this massive dark funnel tearing down skyscrapers. That progression is satisfying. Who would get hooked? People who just want to unwind and break stuff. It's not a thinking game. If you liked those old Rampage games where you destroy cities as a monster, or if you just want to zone out and watch things explode, this is for you. It's repetitive, sure, but that's kind of the point. The visual style is bright and simple, not trying to be photorealistic. It runs smooth even on older hardware. No deep strategy here, just pure, mindless destruction.

About Tornado: Fury of the elements

So you're a tornado lord, and your job is basically to turn a city into a pile of splinters. The main loop is simple: you move your tornado around, grab stuff, and throw it at buildings. On PC, WASD moves you, and on mobile you drag a joystick. The first few levels, like "Suburban Sprawl," are easy -- small houses, flimsy fences, a few trees. You just hold the action button to suck up debris and fling it. The satisfying part early on is watching a roof peel off and spin into a neighbor's garage.

But then the difficulty kicks in. Around level 5, "Downtown Core," you get anti-tornado turrets. These things fire big air cannons that push your storm apart. You need to dodge or absorb smaller objects to build up mass before you can survive a hit. Later, "Military Base" introduces SAM launchers that shoot explosive rockets -- you have to suck up those rockets mid-air and redirect them, which is tricky but awesome when you pull it off. The game calls this "Debris Deflection" in the upgrade menu.

The upgrade system is where you spend points after each level. You can increase your "Grab Radius" to suck up cars from farther away, or "Spin Speed" to throw stuff harder. There's a "Whirlwind Shield" that lets you tank one hit, but it costs a lot. I usually go for "Mass Capacity" first -- being able to carry a bus instead of a trash can makes a big difference.

Later levels, like "Industrial District," have factories with reinforced walls. You can't just throw cars at them; you have to chain together multiple objects to create a "Debris Storm" -- a special attack that triggers when you launch five things in quick succession. The screen flashes, and everything in a radius gets shredded. It's the most satisfying move in the game 💥.

There are also weather events. "Storm Surge" levels add rain that slows your movement, and "Drought" levels reduce available debris. One level called "Tornado Alley" has multiple rival tornadoes you have to avoid or merge with -- merging makes you bigger but harder to control. The game doesn't explain that well, and I died a few times before figuring it out.

Health management is weird -- your tornado has a "Core Stability" meter. It drains when you take damage or use special moves. To refill it, you have to stay still over open fields, which feels risky. Later upgrades let you recover faster, but early on you'll be cursing that mechanic.

The final level, "Capital City Showdown," throws everything at you: turrets, SAMs, rival storms, and a giant monument that takes multiple Debris Storms to break. Beating it feels earned, but the game gives you an extra upgrade slot after, which is nice for replaying older levels. Not a perfect game, but the core loop of grab-throw-dodge keeps me coming back 🏅.

Tips & Tricks

Starting out, I kept dying because I thought bigger tornadoes were always better. Turns out, a smaller, tighter funnel can squeeze through tighter gaps between buildings, letting you avoid those annoying laser turrets entirely. The real trick is learning to pulse your vortex -- holding the grow button (or your joystick) non-stop makes you a huge target. Feather it. Let it shrink, then expand right when you're next to an important building. Collisions with military trucks are brutal; they don't just damage you, they actually cancel your tornado for a few seconds. That stun is almost always a death sentence if missiles are chasing you. Try to steer clear of roads where you see them parked. Upgrading your spin speed early is way more valuable than raw size -- faster spin lets you rip apart reinforced structures before the city's defenses can lock onto you. I ignored the "slipstream" mechanic for way too long. When you destroy a skyscraper, a wind current shoots upward. Ride that boost and you'll get a temporary speed burst that helps you dodge incoming SAMs. Mobile players, don't just circle-strafe. Use the joystick to make sharp, sudden 90-degree turns. The AI tracks your movement predictably, so changing direction suddenly throws off their aim. One last thing: the helicopter boss in level 4 isn't weak to size. You need to hit its rotors specifically with a focused funnel, not a wide one. Took me ten tries to figure that out.
