How to Play

Game Overview

Zombie Space Episode II is exactly what it sounds like: you're on a space station that's gone completely to hell, and everyone's either dead or trying to eat your face. The setup is pure B-movie gold -- the government's conveniently on vacation, survivors are supposedly hiding somewhere, and your job is to shoot through hordes of infected and figure out what happened. Visually, it's got this pixel art style that feels like a throwback to old arcade shooters, but with a slightly grimy sci-fi twist. Everything's dark corridors and flickering lights, which sets the mood pretty well. The gameplay is straightforward twin-stick shooting -- you move with WASD or arrow keys, aim with the mouse, and blow stuff up with X or spacebar. There's a decent weapon variety, from standard guns to some heavier stuff you find in chests, and you can even use a super weapon with F when things get hairy. What surprised me is the co-op -- you can play with a friend on the same device, which is fun chaos. The difficulty ramps up fast though, especially when zombies start coming from all sides. It's not a deep game, but it's solid for what it is. If you like mindless zombie blasting with a buddy, or you're into retro shooters that don't mess around, you'll probably get hooked. Just don't expect a story that makes sense.

About Zombie Space Episode II

So I've been playing Zombie Space Episode II and honestly, it's exactly what it sounds like -- you're on a Mars space station shooting zombies, but there's more to it than just mowing down the undead. The game kicks off with a news flash about a virus spreading across civilian populations, and you're part of a rescue squad sent to find survivors. The first mission is called Infection Zero and it drops you into a cramped corridor filled with slow shuffling zombies. Your brain immediately goes to WASD to move and mouse to aim and shoot -- X or Space both fire, which is handy if one hand gets tired. Q cycles through your weapons, and E is for interacting with stuff like doors or chests. F unleashes a super weapon, which is a limited resource but clears a big area when things get hairy.

The loop is pretty straightforward: enter a level, clear rooms of zombies, look for survivors (they're usually cowering in corners or behind locked doors), and find weapon caches in green chests. Some chests are hidden behind destructible walls, which is a nice touch. Early levels are tame -- you get a pistol and a shotgun, and enemies are just basic infected. But around level 3, The Hive, things change. You start seeing Spitters that shoot acid from a distance, and Runners that charge at you fast. Your brain has to switch from just aiming and shooting to dodging and prioritizing targets. The difficulty curve isn't perfectly smooth -- there's a spike in The Research Lab where you get swarmed from two directions and a boss zombie with a glowing chest that takes way more hits than you expect. That boss fight is actually pretty satisfying because you need to save your super weapon for the right moment, not just spam it.

Upgrades come between levels at a terminal. You can boost health, speed, or weapon damage, and also unlock special abilities for your character -- like a temporary shield or a dash. Your partner in co-op (same-device, split-screen) can pick different upgrades, so you can strategize a bit. Later levels introduce Crawlers that move low and are hard to hit, plus Exploders that detonate when killed, forcing you to back away. The game doesn't hold your hand with hints -- it just throws new enemy types at you and expects you to adapt. One thing I found annoying: there's no manual save, only checkpoints after each level, so if you die mid-level, you restart the whole thing. But the weapons feel punchy, especially the plasma rifle you find in The Core level. The satisfying moment for me was when I unlocked the rocket launcher and cleared a full crowd of Runners with one shot -- pure dopamine. The story is barebones but the atmosphere is decent, with flickering lights and zombie moans. It's not groundbreaking, but it's a solid 2-3 hour action game that doesn't waste your time.

Tips & Tricks

Tip one: Don't sleep on the interact key (E). I wasted ammo trying to break open chests before realizing you just walk up and press E to loot them. Those chests often have weapon upgrades or health packs that make later waves manageable. Another thing that caught me off guard: the super weapon (F key) has a cooldown, but it charges faster if you're landing kills. Save it for when you're cornered by a big group -- popping it early because you panicked is a rookie mistake. Weapon switching with Q is crucial, but the game doesn't tell you that some weapons are better against specific zombie types. The slow-moving ones shrug off pistols, but a shotgun blast will stagger them. Experiment a bit. For co-op play, which is local only, one player can draw aggro while the other flanks -- that's when the game really clicks. Stay mobile while shooting; standing still gets you surrounded fast, especially on higher difficulty. And here's a weird one: the arrow keys work for movement alongside WASD, which is handy if you're using a mouse with your right hand. The controls feel a bit cramped at first, but you get used to it. One mistake I kept making was ignoring the environment -- there are vents and corners you can use to funnel zombies, which makes survival way easier. Don't just run and gun; let the map work for you.
