The main loop is straightforward: eat every sparkling item in the maze--snowflakes, candy canes, little star-shaped cookies--while avoiding the enemies that patrol the paths. There are four enemy types early on: Frosty, a slow blue snowman who trails behind you; Chilly, a green penguin that speeds up when you're close; Blizzard, a white ghost-like thing that can phase through certain walls; and Squeak, a tiny red mouse that moves erratically and cuts corners. The first few levels feel generous, with wide paths and plenty of escape routes. But around level 4, called "Frozen Crossroads," the mazes shrink and the enemies get smarter--they start cutting you off instead of just chasing. You'll find power-up snowflakes that let you eat enemies for a few seconds, turning them into floating ice cubes that shatter with a satisfying crunch. That crunch is the best part. Later levels introduce "Slick Passages" where the floor gets icy, making your movements slide longer than expected, which throws off your timing. There's also a "Blizzard Phase" every five levels where the screen gets hazy and the maze shifts--walls disappear and reappear, forcing you to memorize new routes on the fly. The upgrade system is simple but welcome: between levels, you can spend stars you've collected on speed boosts, longer power-up duration, or a "Snowshield" that blocks one hit per level. The difficulty doesn't ramp linearly--some levels spike hard, like "Crystal Cavern" which has dead ends everywhere, then the next might be a breather called "Cozy Corner" with a simple spiral. The satisfying moments come when you chain power-ups back to back, clearing half the maze in seconds, or when you barely squeeze through a closing gap as enemies clip your tail. There's no real ending--it loops back to harder versions of earlier levels, which is a bit lazy but keeps the challenge fresh. The controls are just arrow keys, but the ice physics and enemy patterns keep your brain busy deciding between safe routes and risky shortcuts.

Tips & Tricks

The ice patches aren't just for show--they'll make you slide an extra tile in whatever direction you're moving, which can either save you from a ghost or send you straight into one. I learned that the hard way on level three. Some winter items are arranged in patterns that loop back on themselves, so if you're being chased, cut through a corner maze section to shake the enemy AI--they don't predict shortcuts well. Eating a snowflake power-up doesn't last as long as you'd think, maybe three seconds, so save it for when a cluster of enemies is close. The ghosts in this game have different personalities: one speeds up when you're near, another follows your exact path, so watch their movement for a few seconds before committing to a route. If you're stuck on a level with tons of narrow tunnels, pause and map out a clockwise circuit in your head--it's way easier to memorize a loop than react in the moment. I wasted too many lives trying to be clever and reverse direction suddenly, but the controls have a slight input lag, so turning early actually works better. For the later levels, the winter items spawn in waves, not all at once, so don't rush to clear the first batch--you'll just leave yourself exposed to the enemies patrolling the empty spaces.
