How to Play

Game Overview

Multi Basketball is exactly what it sounds like -- a basketball game where the hoop doesn't stay put. I played it with a couple friends last weekend and it got chaotic fast. The court is this simple, flat blacktop with bright neon lines, and the players are these chunky little blocky characters that bounce around when they move. Visual style is pure arcade -- think something you'd see in a 90s pizza place but cleaned up. The goal literally teleports to a random spot every single time someone scores. One second you're lining up a shot on the right side, next second the basket is on the left or even right behind you. It feels frantic but not unfair because everyone has the same problem. You can play with up to four people, which means the screen gets crowded and you're constantly bumping into each other trying to grab the ball. The bots are decent enough to keep things interesting if you don't have a full squad. Whoever gets to 15 points first wins, and those games end quick -- maybe five minutes max. I'd say this is for people who like local multiplayer games that don't take themselves seriously. If you enjoyed stuff like TowerFall or that old NBA Jam but want something dumber and faster, this hits. It's not deep at all but it's a solid way to kill twenty minutes with friends.

About Multi Basketball

Multi Basketball is four players, human or bot, all trying to be the first one to sink 15 shots. The court is a single screen, top-down view, with a bunch of players scrambling around a ball. You control your guy left and right with your chosen keys--A and D for player one, arrow keys for player two, J and L for player three, or mouse clicks for player four. That's it for movement. There's no jumping, no passing, no dribbling. You just steer your dude into the ball to push it toward the goal. The goal is a hoop that sits somewhere on the court's edge, and it's not fixed. Every time someone scores, that hoop teleports to a brand new random spot on the perimeter. So you can't just learn a sweet spot and camp it.

The loop is chaotic from the start. You're all fighting for the ball, bumping into each other, trying to shove it in the right direction. The ball bounces off walls and players, so you're constantly reacting to weird angles. Sometimes you'll score by accident--a wild ricochet off someone's head--and that's honestly one of the most satisfying moments. When you actually aim and nail a shot, it feels great, but the random goals are hilarious too.

Difficulty builds because the bots get smarter as you play more games. They start out dumb, just kind of hovering near the ball, but later they'll actively block your path and position themselves between you and the goal. There's no upgrade system or power-ups--it's raw, arcade-style. The tension comes from the clock. Each match has a countdown, and if nobody hits 15, the leader wins. So late-game, when someone's at 14 and everyone else is at 10, you get this frantic pile-up near the goal. The ball gets stuck in a mess of bodies, and you're mashing your keys to escape.

There aren't level names or enemy types--it's just a single court with a moving hoop. But the real mechanic that shows up later is the speed boost. After a few rounds, the ball moves faster, and the goal changes locations faster too. You'll have a split second to react before the hoop vanishes and reappears on the opposite side. That's when the game gets truly wild. Your brain is constantly scanning the screen for where the goal just went, while your fingers are already steering toward the ball. It's not deep, but it's addictive in short bursts. No neat wrap-up here--just play it and see how long you can keep up.

Tips & Tricks

Most players mash left and right constantly, but that actually makes you less accurate. Let off the keys for a split second before you shoot -- the ball stops drifting and your aim snaps to where you're pointing. The goal moves the instant the ball swishes through, not when it hits the ground. I learned this the hard way after countless shots hit the rim because I was already aiming at where the hoop used to be. Watch the goal's shadow on the floor instead of the hoop itself -- it appears a fraction of a second before the goal teleports, giving you a heads-up on its next location. Playing against bots? Notice that they always drift toward the center after missing a shot. Hang back near the side and they'll leave the middle wide open for an easy score on the rebound. When you're up against three opponents, don't chase the ball everywhere. Pick a spot and defend it -- the hoop will come to you eventually, and you'll save energy for the clutch shots. The left-click control for player 4 is surprisingly precise once you get used to clicking on the far edges of the screen for sharper turns. Finally, if you're Player 2 or 3, the arrow keys and J/L can feel awkward at first -- I found it helps to rest your hand differently, like keeping your thumb on the key instead of your index finger. Small grip change, big difference in reaction time.
